Greektown Casino To Use PokerPro Tables

Early 2007 will see poker tables at Greektown Casino devoid of live dealers. Greektown Casino will be the pioneer in Michigan to use computerized poker tables. The high-tech poker tables, PokerPro, is made by North Carolina based PokerTek Inc.

The tables will be able to operate without live dealers, cards and poker chips. Players will be able to enjoy their favorite Texas Hold'em Poker Game-they can bet, raise or fold by using a touch-screen terminal right in front of them.

Greektown casino wants to capitalize on the ongoing poker craze in the US and to service the growing number of poker players who are electronics-savvy, those who as at home with a computer touch screen as with real cards.

PokerPro is said to save the casino money because it would now be eliminating dealers. The number of games played is also sped up, which also translates to more profits, as more hands are dealt per hour.

"With these tables, we have a golden opportunity to actually grow the poker market in Detroit," said Jack McGinty, vice president of Greektown Casino operations. "When players get into the rhythm, the game will be 50 percent faster than traditional poker with a dealer."

The Michigan Gaming Control Board, which regulates casinos has already evaluated the tables and has declared that everything worked well.
